FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

I-280 / SR-87 Connector Embankment Project

Santa Clara County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin a project on Interstate 280 at Minor Ave in San Jose on Monday, July 6. The project will reconstruct the embankment with geosynthetic materials to prevent future pavement and embankment failures. A new structural section will be constructed and the current guard railing will be replaced with concrete barrier. The purpose of this project is to preserve and extend the life of the existing embankment and improve the ride quality along this area.

Construction will occur behind K-rails towards the road shoulder during the weekdays from 6 AM to 4 PM. There will be some intermittent night work from 12:00 AM to 7:00 AM to move K-rail; however, most of the construction will occur during the weekdays and the lane will remain open. Message signs are in place to assist motorists traveling through the area. The project will be completed in late September, 2015.

The detour plan for ramp closure is a follows:

Closure: Southbound Interstate 280 connector off-ramp to southbound State Route 87.

Detour: Take southbound 280 connector off-ramp to northbound State Route 87 to Julian Street exit to southbound State Route 87 on-ramp.
