U.S. Route 101 in San Mateo Co-Ramp Meters Go Green April 28

State of California • Department of Transportation

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Date: April 22, 2015
District: 4 - Oakland
Contact: Gidget Navarro
Phone: (510) 286-5574

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

U.S. Route 101 in San Mateo County
Ramp Meters to go Green April 28, 2015
Watch For New Signals at On-Ramps

San Mateo County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will activate southbound ramp metering on U.S. Route 101 in San Mateo County beginning April 28, 2015.

What is Ramp Metering?
Ramp metering is a traffic management strategy using traffic signals and accompanying equipment and techniques to improve flow on the freeway system. It is intended to improve the safety of vehicle merging.

Motorists at newly activated ramp locations may experience operational delays during the first few days of operation. Caltrans staff will monitor the metered locations and make adjustments, and then fine tune the metering operations.

Southbound Activation
Meters at 17 on-ramps will be activated on southbound U.S. 101 between the San Francisco/San Mateo County line and State Route 92.

• Beginning Tuesday, April 28, 2015 on-ramp meters will be set to solid green during commute times to alert drivers to the new driving condition.

• On Tuesday, May 5, 2015, on-ramp meters will start cycling through red and green during southbound PM peak time from 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

• On Tuesday, May 12, 2015, on-ramp meters will start cycling during southbound AM peak time from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Drivers entering U.S. Route 101 where on-ramp meters are activated should stop at red and wait until the metering light turns green to enter U.S. Route 101. Caltrans will monitor traffic conditions and operate ramp meters as appropriate.

Additional Information: All on-ramps will operate at “1 car per green” except for one freeway to freeway connector ramp which will meter and operate at “2 cars per green”. The freeway connector is the eastbound State Route 92 to southbound U.S Route 101 Connector.

Following activation, Caltrans will monitor ramp metering vehicle activity and optimize systems as needed. In addition, ramp meters could be subject to time changes based on monitoring results.

I-80/I-680/SR 12 Interchange Project – Fairfield-April 2015 Update

NEWS RELEASE

District: 4 – Oakland

I-80/I-680/SR 12 Interchange Project – Fairfield
Increased Construction Activities resume April 2015

SOLANO COUNTY– Caltrans and its project partner, the Solano Transportation Authority (STA), have completed preliminary false work installation on the new I-80 Green Valley Road Overcrossing. The false work installation completed on April 9th required a full closure on I-80. The preliminary work marks a major milestone in this first package of the Interstate 80/Interstate 680/State Route 12 (I-80/I-680/SR 12) Interchange Project.

Pile-Driving Operations
With the metal beams of the new overcrossing installed, businesses and residents near the construction site may encounter increased noise due to the resumption of daytime pile-driving at the adjacent I-680/I-80 interchange, and the site of the new westbound I-80 to westbound SR 12 connector. Pile-driving is scheduled to resume in mid-April 2015 until fall 2015. Normal pile-driving hours are 9:00AM until 5:00PM Monday-Friday.

Increased Material Import
Motorists and residents near the construction zone may encounter temporary detours, intermittent lane closures, pile-driving, and see increased heavy construction equipment. All work is weather permitting.

Daytime travel delays may also be likely due to increased material hauling activity near Green Valley Road and Business Center Drive starting mid-April 2015. Motorists should watch for flaggers and changeable message signs.

Caltrans will make announcements when detour routes are necessary.

US 101 in Sonoma County-Ramp Meter Activation-Mon, April 13

State of California • Department of Transportation

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Date: April 8, 2015
District: 4 - Oakland
Contact: Allyn Amsk
Phone: (510) 286-5445

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

U.S. 101 in Sonoma County
Ramp Meters at Airport Boulevard to go Green Monday, April 13, 2015
Watch For New Signals at On-Ramps

SONOMA COUNTY – Next week the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will activate ramp meters for northbound and southbound on-ramps from Airport Boulevard to U.S. Route 101 in Sonoma County.

• Beginning Monday, April 13, 2015, ramp meters on northbound and southbound U.S. Route 101 at Airport Boulevard will be set to solid green during commute times to alert drivers to the new driving condition.

• On Tuesday, April 21, ramp meters will cycle through red and green in the morning from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and in the afternoon from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• Caltrans will monitor the timing of the ramp meters and make adjustments as necessary.

What is Ramp Metering?
Ramp metering is a traffic management strategy using traffic signals and accompanying equipment and techniques to manage on-ramp flow on the freeway system. It is intended to improve the safety of vehicle merging and the flow of traffic on the highway.

Motorists at newly activated ramp locations may experience operational delays during the first few days of operation. Caltrans staff will monitor the metered locations and make adjustments, and then fine tune the metering operations.

Drivers entering U.S. Route 101 where ramp meters are activated should stop at red and wait until the traffic signal turns green to enter U.S. Route 101. Caltrans will monitor traffic conditions and operate ramp meters as appropriate.

Additional Information
Many of the on-ramps in Sonoma County have a carpool lane marked with a diamond. The carpool lane restriction for an on-ramp is 24-hours per day, seven days a week.

For more information, go to the Sonoma County Ramp Metering webpage at http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist4/101sonomametering/ . The Ramp Metering Information Line is: 510-286-4531.

State Route 128 Slope Protection Projects
UPDATE: Big Rig Restriction Begins on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 7 a.m.

SONOMA COUNTY – Construction signs have been installed for a slope protection project on State Route 128/Oat Valley Road. The project is located two miles west of the three-way intersection of North Cloverdale Boulevard/ North Redwood Highway/Oat Valley Road, and approximately 1.8 miles east of the Mendocino County line. Construction will continue through October 2015.

Construction Details
• Ground-breaking activities are expected to begin the week of April 6, 2015. Please be alert for construction workers and follow the directions of flaggers.
• One-way reversing traffic control will be in place during this project, and motorists should expect delays when traveling through the construction zone.
• Big Rig Restriction: Starting on Monday, April 13 or soon after, the width of SR-128 roadway will be temporarily reduced at a hair-pin curve so big rigs will not be able to travel through the construction zone.
o The segment of SR-128 between N. Cloverdale Blvd and SR-253 will be closed to big rigs and vehicles over 30 feet in length. Exception: this restriction will not apply to logging trucks.
o Portable changeable message signs (PCMS) will be in place one week prior to alert drivers regarding the closure for big rigs.
o Detour: Big rigs will be detoured to State Route 253.
o See detour map for more information.
o The restriction will be in effect for about two months or less.

A second slope protection project will begin in May 2015, approximately 2.4 miles east of the Mendocino County line. This project will not have a big rig restriction, but the restriction will remain in effect until the completion of the previously mentioned project.

If this work is delayed due to weather conditions, it will be rescheduled for a later time. Please drive cautiously through the construction zone, leave a safe traveling distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you, and Slow for the Cone Zone.
