FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ADA Curb Ramps and Sidewalk Improvements on State Route 13 / Ashby Avenue in Berkeley

Alameda County, Calif. – Caltrans is continuing work to upgrade curb ramps and sidewalks for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance improvements along State Route 13 (SR-13) / Ashby Avenue in Berkeley, Alameda County.

The work takes place at 15 locations between Shattuck Avenue and 7th Street along SR-13 / Ashby Avenue. However during the week of March 6-10, construction is anticipated at: SR-13 between King Street and Sacramento Street; and SR-13 at Acton Street. Please note specific construction alerts for individual sites below:

• Sidewalk replacement on the north side of SR-13 adjacent to addresses numbered 1609 through 1645 Ashby Avenue will require trimming of overhanging vegetation. Residents are advised to trim vegetation ahead of March 6 or it will be cut back during sidewalk demolition.
• Upcoming work during the week of March 13-17 will impede access to parking for residents of the Ashby Court apartments (1222-1226 Ashby Avenue) and residents of 1947 Ashby Avenue. Dates of the 10-hour sidewalk closures are:
o Monday, March 13 from 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM there will be no driveway access for parking spaces 1-8 at the Ashby Court apartments.
o Tuesday March 14 from 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM there will be no driveway access for parking spaces 9-16 at the Ashby Court Apartments.
o Wednesday March 15 from 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM there will be no driveway access for residents of 1947 Ashby Avenue.

Sidewalk and ADA ramp work will necessitate temporary equipment staging in the parking lane along the SR-13 / Ashby Avenue corridor, making the parking lane in the area of construction unavailable for general use on a short-term basis. Signage will provide 72-hour notice prior to any parking restrictions. More information is available at: http://www.dot.ca.gov/d4/13ashbyaveada/.
