FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Caltrans to Activate Ramp Meters U.S. Highway 101

Santa Clara County- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in partnership with Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will begin ramp metering operations in both the northbound and southbound directions of U.S. 101 in Santa Clara County from the Monterey Road Interchange to State Route 85 / U.S. 101 interchange.

The implementation of ramp metering is an effective traffic management strategy to improve vehicle on-ramp merging, reduce travel time and improve the overall mobility of motorists traveling through the corridor during peak commute hours.

Metering lights in the southbound direction will be activated for the p.m. peak commute hours of 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Monday through Thursday) starting October 13, 2015. Metering during peak hours on Fridays will operation from 2:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. During this first week, the meters will be set to solid green then begin metering on October 20.

Metering lights in the northbound direction will be activated for the a.m. peak commute (5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Monday through Friday), on October 20, 2015. During this week, the meters will be set to solid green then begin metering starting on October 27.

Newly activated ramp locations could experience delays during the first few days. Caltrans will monitor the metered on-ramps and make adjustments as we fine-tune the metering operations. The ramp meter information line phone number is 510-286-4531.
