Expect Delays During Emergency Repairs

SOLANO AND SACRAMENTO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has scheduled one-way traffic controls and a temporary closure of the State Route 12 (SR-12) Rio Vista Bridge on Sunday, August 12, 2018.

Bridge Open to Motorists but Remains Closed to Large Ships
The drawbridge bridge reopened to motorists on Friday, August 10 at 1:30 AM after getting stuck in the upright position on the afternoon of Thursday, August 9.

Since Thursday, Caltrans has been working to repair the mechanism which lifts and lowers the bridge. During the repairs, the bridge is open to motorists but cannot be raised for large ships.

As part of the repairs, Caltrans will use large lift-cranes to access the machinery inside the bridge’s tower.
30 to 40 Minute Full Bridge Closure, August 12

While the cranes are on the bridge, all traffic lanes will be closed for approximately 30 to 40 minutes. The closure will occur sometime on August 12 between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Once work with the cranes is completed, at least one traffic lane will reopen.

One-Way Traffic Controls on Bridge Start August 12 at 10:00 AM
At times when the bridge is not closed, one-way traffic controls on the bridge will be in effect starting Sunday, August,12 at 10:00 AM until approximately 2:00 PM. Crews will alternate lane closures in both eastbound and westbound directions. This will allow one lane on the bridge to remain open during the work. Flaggers will help direct traffic.

Motorists should expect delays and allow for extra travel time.
For motorists using the SR-84 Real McCoy and SR-220 Ryer Island Ferries as a bridge detour, additional ferry information is located on our Caltrans Delta Ferries website at:
