FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Update: I-5 Scheduled for Emergency Closures in Downtown Sacramento
Major Delays Expected for Labor Day Weekend

SACRAMENTO – Caltrans is advising motorists northbound Interstate 5 near Richards Boulevard just north of downtown Sacramento will be partially closed for emergency work over the Labor Day weekend.

The extended weekend closure is scheduled to begin this Friday night and last until early Tuesday morning.

Daytime work will close the northbound number one and two lanes. Nighttime work will close down the northbound number three, four and auxiliary lanes.

To avoid delays motorists are urged to use westbound U.S. Highway 50 to eastbound I-80 and reconnect with northbound I-5 as an alternate route.

Extended Weekend Closure Schedule for Northbound I-5:

• 11 p.m. Friday, August 31 to 4 a.m. Tuesday, September 4.
• I Street On-ramp to Northbound I-5 Closed

The closure comes after a large pothole in the pavement damaged multiple vehicles, and caused the shutdown of the northbound number four lane for about five hours on August 30.

Caltrans District 3 will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ or download the QuickMap app on iTunes or Google Play.
