Caltrans Completes Major Construction in Nine Months
Anticipates Opening New Bridge to Traffic
Friday, January 12, 2018

SOLANO COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has completed major construction of the new Laurel Street Bridge in approximately nine months and is now anticipating opening the new bridge to traffic on Friday, January 12, 2018. The bridge is located above Interstate-780 (-I-780) just east of Downtown Vallejo.

Traffic Barrier and Fence Removal-Reopened Bridge Approach
Motorists on Laurel Street should drive with caution as crews open traffic lanes approaching the new bridge and remove temporary traffic barriers.
Caltrans is anticipating opening the bridge to traffic sometime in the afternoon on January 12. Caltrans will make an announcement and post signs once the bridge is reopened to traffic.

I-780 Laurel Street Bridge Project
Caltrans started construction of the new Laurel Street Bridge in May 2017. The new bridge replaces the old Laurel Street Bridge and brings the new bridge up to seismic safety standards. The new bridge includes traffic lanes with standard shoulders and a pedestrian sidewalk.

The opening of the new Laurel Street reconnects two heavily traveled neighborhoods in Vallejo just south and just north of I-780 which were affected by long-term detours during construction.

Caltrans and its contractor would like to thank motorists and nearby residents for their patience as we worked to construct the new I-780 Laurel Street Bridge.
