San Pedro Creek Bridge Pile Driving to Begin (State Route 1) Pacifica

San Mateo County- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin pile driving (bridge foundation work) for the San Pedro Creek Bridge Replacement Project adjacent to San Pedro Avenue and State Route 1 in Pacifica.

Pile driving will be performed starting August 18, 2014 to August 22, 2014, Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00am to 5:00pm. Pile driving may continue the following week beginning on August 25, 2014 to August 29, 2014.

Pile driving involves hammering large steel shell units into the ground to hold structural supports for highway bridges and other structures. Residents can expect noise and vibration.

This work is part of the San Pedro Creek Bridge Replacement Project that started in May 2014. The project will install a longer and higher bridge over the creek to provide the capacity need for the 100-year flood event. In addition, a Class 1 multi-purpose path will be added along its eastern side.

This project will be completed by October, 2015 (weather permitting)

NOTE: No closures are needed for pile driving as a detour has been in place on San Pedro Avenue since June, 2014.
