FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tree Removal on State Route 82 (El Camino Real) in the Cities of Burlingame and Hillsborough (San Mateo County)

San Mateo County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is scheduled to remove approximately eleven trees on State Route 82 (El Camino Real) in the northbound and southbound direction along the Howard-Ralston Tree Row, between Ray Drive and Sanchez Avenue, in the cities of Burlingame and Hillsborough in San Mateo County. Ten Elm trees and a Eucalyptus tree will be removed, as part of the removal; Caltrans proposes replanting with disease-resistant elms.

The trees have been identified as diseased, dead, or dying and could pose a potential hazard to passing motorists, and pedestrians if not removed.

The tree removal is scheduled to start in the southbound direction on Monday, December 8 through December 12. The northbound direction tree removal is tentatively scheduled for the week of Monday, December 15 through December 19.

Work will start each day Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (All work is weather permitting).

To ensure worker and public safety during the work, one-way traffic controls will be implemented to help guide motorist through the area.

During one-way traffic controls, flaggers will alternate traffic on northbound and southbound State Route 82. (El Camino Real) One lane will remain open at all times. However, motorists should allow for extra travel time and expect minor delays.

NOTE: The week of December 15 through December 19, the southbound Howard Avenue & El Camino Real bus stop will be closed.
