FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Interstate 80 Integrated Corridor Mobility Project for Active Traffic Management Contract

Alameda County/Contra Costa County – Construction has begun for the Active Traffic Management contract for the Interstate 80 (I-80) Integrated Corridor Mobility (ICM) Project. The contractor has currently restriped eastbound and westbound I-80 at several locations between Powell Street in Emeryville and Potrero Avenue in El Cerrito.  Portable Changeable Message Signs are being used to alert motorists of “Lane Shift Ahead” areas.  Traffic lanes have been shifted to the right to allow the contractor to work in the median to begin foundation work for electronic, informational signs that will be installed next year.

In the weeks ahead the contractor will be working at many locations on I-80 between Emeryville and Crockett.  Please be alert for construction workers, drive cautiously through the construction zone and leave a safe traveling distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you.  Please remember to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”

Construction continues for the Adaptive Ramp Metering contract for the I-80 ICM project. Caltrans has scheduled the following closures:
  • Westbound I-80 Ashby Avenue on-ramp on Tuesday, September 24 through Thursday, September 26, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Westbound I-80 University Avenue on-ramp on Tuesday, September 24, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The I-80 Integrated Corridor Mobility project will provide safety improvements for the traveling public; mobility and efficiency during commute hours; automated, integrated technology to manage traffic efficiently; real-time traffic information for travelers; with tax dollars funding SMART solutions.
