Highway 1-Tom Lantos Tunnels
One-Way Traffic Controls Next Two Nights

SAN MATEO COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will
need to perform paving and striping of the permanent approaches of the recently opened Highway 1-Tom Lantos Tunnels. The affected approaches are just south of the new tunnels. The overnight work is scheduled for two nights starting tonight at 7 p.m.

Thursday, April 11th-Lane Closures Overnight
To ensure worker and public safety, tonight’s one-way traffic controls will be in effect on Highway 1 in the area just south of the Tom Lantos Tunnels. The work begins tonight, April 11th at 7 p.m. and will be completed the following morning at 7 a.m.

During one-way traffic controls, one lane of traffic will remain open at all times with flaggers alternating northbound and southbound traffic. All work is weather permitting.

Friday, April 12th-Alternating Tunnel Closures Overnight
As part of the Friday, April 12th work, crews will alternate traffic through one bore at a time of the Tom Lantos Tunnels. The work will start on Friday at 9 p.m. and be completed by 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 13th. During the alternating tunnel closures, traffic will be directed into either the northbound or southbound tunnel with one of the tunnels closed during the work.

Motorists should allow for extra travel time.

Additional project information is posted on the Caltrans’ Highway 1-Devil’s Slide webpage at: http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist4/dslide/
