State Route 1 Improvements in Montara
Caltrans will begin two
improvement projects on State Route I in the town of Montara beginning the
first week of September, 2012, immediately following the Labor Day weekend. The
two projects are within the same limits on Route 1.
Left Turn
Channelization Project.
The first project will
install left turn channelization lanes along Cabrillo Highway at post mile
35.9, from 0.1 mile south of Carlos Street to 14th Avenue. This will
involve grinding, resurfacing and replacing roadway structural sections. This
will provide a refuge to decelerating and stopped vehicles which are waiting
for an opportunity to cross the opposing traffic stream. This work will be performed
at night and will consist of some noise from equipment. Monday through Thursday
construction hours are 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 am. Friday and Saturday hours are 7:00
pm. to 10:00 am. Sunday 7:00 pm. to 10:00 am. One way traffic control will be
in effect with changeable message and construction signs to help guide motorist
during construction hours. Construction for this project is expected to end
October 2012.
Asphalt Overlay
Project.
The second project is
an Asphalt Concrete Resurfacing in and near the Town of Montara, from 0.1 mile
south of Marine Boulevard to 1.3 miles north of Second Street. Post mile 34.8
to 37.9. This project will replace sections of existing pavement thereby
extending pavement life and creating a smoother driving surface. This work will
be performed at night, Monday through Friday from 8:00 pm. to 8:00 am. One way
traffic control will be in effect with changeable message and construction
signs to help guide motorist during construction hours. Construction for this
project is expected to end mid November, 2012.
One lane will remain
open to traffic at all times during construction.
Note: Please be aware
there may be heavy fog present at times. All work is weather dependent.
Motorists should be reminded to watch out for workers during these
construction activities and "Slow for the Cone Zone”. Caltrans appreciates
your patience as we work to improve the highways.
