FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

U.S. 101 Auxiliary Lanes Project Paving Work Begins

Santa Clara County— California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin grinding and paving on U.S. 101 starting May 12, 2014. The paving operation will start on northbound 101 for a 3.2 mile segment between State Route 85 in Mountain View and Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto before switching to southbound U.S. 101 in approximately three weeks to four weeks. The entire grinding and paving process for both sides of U.S.101 will take approximately eight weeks.

The grinding and paving will initially start on the first two inside lanes (1 & 2) during the first week and will not require ramp closures; however, ramp closures will be necessary when grinding and paving switches to the two outside lanes towards freeway shoulder (lanes 3&4). Caltrans will always provide at least two open lanes on each side of the freeway during throughout the paving process.

Work will occur at night during off-peak weekday hours (Monday through Friday) from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Advance warning changeable message signs and detour signs will be posted to assist motorists during lane and ramp closures. Caltrans appreciates your patience as we improve California’s highways.
