U.S. 101 Auxiliary Lanes Project Opens All Lanes

Santa Clara County—The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans)  and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) have completed the construction of auxiliary lanes in each direction of a 3.2 mile segment of U.S. 101 between State Route 85 in Mountain View and Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto. All carpool and auxiliary lanes will be open for motorists starting Wednesday, August 13 at 5:00 a.m.

“This $73 million dollar project in Santa Clara County which includes $56 million from Proposition 1B and $17 million from VTA Local Program Reserve Funds will improve mobility and safety for the 206,000 motorists traveling through this corridor on a daily basis,” said Caltrans District 4 Director Bijan Sartipi.

The project also extended existing carpool lanes in each direction, widened the southbound Oregon Expressway on-ramp, installed ramp meters on the northbound Amphitheatre Parkway and San Antonio Road and added a lane on the southbound Old Middlefield Way on-ramp. The final configuration of this project includes two carpool lanes and one auxiliary lane on each side of U.S.101.

Caltrans will continue to perform minor work along this corridor through July 2015 when the project is expected to be completed.

Interstate 280 Connector Ramp to State Route 87 Closure

Santa Clara County - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the southbound I-280 connector off-ramp to southbound SR-87 in order to replace metal beam guardrail with a concrete barrier. The connector off-ramp will be closed during the weekdays (Monday-Friday) July 21 to Aug 1 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. This project in Santa Clara County  is schedule to be completed by Aug 1.  

Detour for SB I-280 to SB SR-85 Closure: Take northbound SR-87 to West Julian exit to southbound SR-87.

Detour signs and Changeable Message Signs will be posted to assist motorists during this ramp closure. Please drive cautiously when approaching the construction area.

    STATE ROUTE 17 DRAIN SYSTEM UPGRADES

Santa Clara County - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will start a project this week to upgrade a highway drainage system and repair slopes along State Route 17 in Santa Clara County from .3 mile south of Alma College to .2 mile north of Bear Creek Road overcrossing.

-  On State Route 17, construction will close one lane and leave one lane open during the weekday night time from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. in the northbound direction and 11:00 p.m. to 5 a.m. in the southbound direction.

- On Old Santa Cruz Highway, construction will close one lane during the weekday day time from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and perform one-way traffic control with flaggers directing traffic.

 Construction noise will be unavoidable; however, it will be kept within approved construction noise levels.

Motorists can expect some delays, but flaggers and CHP will be on the job site to assist traffic flow. In addition, traffic signs will be in place throughout the construction area. The project will be completed in late summer, 2014.

U.S. 101 Auxiliary Lanes Project Ramp Closure

Santa Clara County— California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is grinding and paving on southbound U.S. 101 as part of the U.S. 101 Auxiliary Lane Project this evening.

The grinding and paving operation will require the two outside lanes (3&4) to be closed in the southbound direction which will require the San Antonio Road on / off ramps and Oregon Expressway on / off ramps to be closed independently from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., Thursday morning.  Construction activities will resume after the holiday on July 7.

Advance warning changeable message signs and detour signs will be posted to assist motorists during lane and ramp closures. Caltrans appreciates your patience as we improve California’s highways.

U.S. 101 Auxiliary Lanes Project Paving Work Begins

Santa Clara County— California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin grinding and paving on U.S. 101 starting May 12, 2014. The paving operation will start on northbound 101 for a 3.2 mile segment between State Route 85 in Mountain View and Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto before switching to southbound U.S. 101 in approximately three weeks to four weeks. The entire grinding and paving process for both sides of U.S.101 will take approximately eight weeks.  

The grinding and paving will initially start on the first two inside lanes (1 & 2) during the first week and will not require ramp closures; however, ramp closures will be necessary when grinding and paving switches to the two outside lanes towards freeway shoulder (lanes 3&4). Caltrans will always provide at least two open lanes on each side of the freeway during throughout the paving process.  

Work will occur at night during off-peak weekday hours (Monday through Friday) from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Advance warning changeable message signs and detour signs will be posted to assist motorists during lane and ramp closures. Safety Improvement Project

                          Safety Improvement  Project

Santa Clara County - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will begin removing trees as part of a roadway safety improvement project on portions of State Route 152 from .2 mile north of Bella Vista Lane to .2 mile east of Watsonville Road  in Santa Clara County. This project is in advance of the Hecker Pass safety improvement project which will start in early summer 2014.

The proposed roadway improvements are designed to improve sight distance on this segment of the highway, thereby reducing the potential for cross-centerline accidents due to poor visibility. The tree removal process will be conducted during the daytime on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and should be completed by the middle of February 2014.

Most of the work will be conducted on the shoulders; however, some sections of roadway near Bella Vista Lane will require single lane closures and one way traffic control.

Signs will be posted and flaggers will be present to assist motorists during this ramp closure. Please drive cautiously when approaching the construction area.

State Route 82 (El-Camino Real) Pavement Repair  

Santa Clara County - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is planning to close the #1 and 2 northbound lanes of SR-82 from Wolfe Road to Fair Oaks Avenue in Sunnyvale to repair damaged asphalt / concrete. Lane #3 will remain open during the repair work.  

The closure will take place this evening from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Thursday morning.  There are no required detours during these scheduled repairs.  
   
Advance warning changeable message signs and detour signs are in place to assist motorists traveling in the area. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the area and please “Slow for the Cone Zone.”

EXTENDED CLOSURES OF MISSION BLVD WESTBOUND LANES
(SR-262) TO BEGIN THIS WEEKEND

ALAMEDA – Caltrans, in partnership with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority will temporarily close the westbound (w/b) lanes in the City of Fremont along Mission Boulevard in order to begin construction of a new railroad underpass structure.

Extended w/b lane closures for Mission Blvd. this weekend only are as follows:

           

·         Friday, July 19^th, from 9 p.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20^th

·         Saturday July 20^th, at 9 p.m., until 11 a.m. Sunday, July 21

Regularly-scheduled lane closures for Mission Blvd. resume (as necessary) on Sunday, July 21 and Tuesday, July 23, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Detour routes for all closures are:

·         From I-680: Westbound Mission Blvd. will be closed between Warm Springs Blvd. and I-880 -  use Auto Mall Parkway.  Warren Avenue is closed between Kato Road and Mission Falls Court and should not be used as an alternate for Mission Blvd.

·         To I-880: Alternative options for westbound motorists in south Fremont include Fremont Blvd. and Dixon Landing, in Milpitas.

I-880 HOV PROJECT UPDATE

                          I-880 HOV PROJECT UPDATE

Santa Clara County - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is currently constructing an additional HOV lane on I-880 as well as widening and realigning the on and off- ramps to I-880 at the Brokaw Road Interchange. This project will reduce congestion along Interstate 880 between U.S. 101 and State Route 237 interchanges by adding approximately 4.6 miles of high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane in both directions as well as improving the Brokaw Road Interchange.

Caltrans will start grinding, paving and striping this area beginning this week through July, 2013.  Work will be performed  throughout the week including weekends from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. There will be various freeway lane and ramp closures during this paving operation; however, Caltrans will always provide at least one open lane in both directions of travel and will never close two consecutive ramps.

Electronic highway message signs and detour signs will be in place to assist motorists traveling in the area.
