FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Eastbound Interstate 80
Ramp
Meters in Fairfield to be Activated February 18th
Watch
For New Signals at On-Ramps
SOLANO COUNTY – The California Department of
Transportation (Caltrans), the Solano Transportation Authority (STA), and the Metropolitan
Transportation Commission (MTC) are scheduled to activate ramp meters on
eastbound Interstate 80 in Fairfield on Tuesday, February 18th.
This first
stage of ramp meter activation in Solano County includes nine on-ramp locations
on eastbound I-80 between Red Top Road and North Texas Street.
What to Watch For
The ramp
meters in Fairfield will remain on green starting February 18th
until February 21st. After February 21st, the meters will
remain green under typical Monday-Thursday freeway conditions; except on
Fridays or excessively heavy traffic weekdays when they will cycle (operate)
red-green.
Drivers
entering I-80 where ramp meters are activated should stop at red and wait until
the metering light turns green to enter I-80. Caltrans will monitor traffic
conditions and operate ramp meters as appropriate.
What is Ramp Metering?
Ramp metering
is a traffic management strategy using traffic signals and accompanying
equipment and techniques to manage onramp flow on the freeway system.
Future Stages
Additional
ramp meters on I-80 in Dixon, Fairfield, Vacaville, and Vallejo will be
activated at later dates in stages 2 and 3 of ramp meter activation in Solano
County.
