CALTRANS LITTER CLEAN-UP AND ENFORCEMENT DAY 10th Anniversary Wednesday, June 12th, 2013 Caltrans Partners With CHP


CALTRANS DISTRICT 4 (BAY AREA)- Caltrans and the CHP will work together in a major effort against highway litter Wednesday, June 12th, 2013. This is the 10th anniversary of the Litter Clean-Up Event which started as a conversation about Litter Abatement between Caltrans, the CHP, truck associations and various Bay Area cities.

Caltrans maintenance crews throughout the nine Bay Area counties will focus their efforts throughout the day on cleaning-up litter left alongside the highways. Caltrans employees will be at some of these various locations around the Bay Area:

San Francisco (9:30 a.m. until 1p.m.)
Northbound and Southbound Highway 101 from Sierra Point Exit
to the Candlestick Park Exit.  

Oakland-Alameda (10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.)
Northbound and Southbound Highway 61(Doolittle Drive) between
Hegenberger Road and Island Drive

San Rafael (10 a.m. until 1 p.m.)
Northbound and Southbound Highway 101 over Alto Hill
and also from                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Highway 131 to Tamalpais Drive

San Jose (9 a.m. until 1 p.m.)
Northbound and Southbound Highway 101 from the 280/680 interchange to the 237/101 interchange.

Last fiscal year, Caltrans spent more than $52 million statewide on cleanup and trash removal. During its one day event in 2012, Caltrans collected the equivalent of 10,000 garbage trucks of trash which is equal to 51 miles of trash.
