San Mateo-Hayward Bridge is Open

No Second Weekend Closure Needed (October 26-29)

San Mateo and Alameda Counties – Commuters who use the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge will be able to use the bridge for their commute Monday morning after Caltrans’ crews made

quicker-than-expected progress during a weekend closure, enough progress in fact to cancel a planned full closure for next week.

“Public safety and convenience are top priorities for Caltrans,” said District 4 Director Bijan Sartipi. "This project is a reflection of how Caltrans works with our contractors to achieve the greatest public safety with the least public inconvenience."

Caltrans and the contractor reopened the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge at 4 a.m., one hour before Monday morning’s commute. There will be no full weekend closure next weekend, October 26 through 29. This successful weekend offers great news for anyone who needs the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge for their weekend plans.

Saturday, the contractor made great progress on the westbound deck replacement and these efforts created an opportunity to also replace the eastbound bridge deck span this weekend as well. Crews continued to work hard through the day and night Sunday to open ahead of the 5 a.m. Monday scheduled reopening.

Motorists can expect lane closures as needed so that crews can continue working to complete the project; however, there will not be any further full weekend bridge closures.

Also, during the closure, Bay Area Toll Authority crews replaced crash cushions at the toll plaza and Caltrans Maintenance Crews took advantage of the full closure to complete roughly two months worth of maintenance work including:

•    100,000 square feet of structural painting

•    170 tons of paving

•    220 feet of guardrail replaced

•    90 signs replaced

•    50 square feet of graffiti removed

•    40 drains cleared

•    3 truckloads of litter

•    3 truckloads of vegetation (weeds)

Caltrans to Close San Mateo-Hayward Bridge Over Two Weekends

San Mateo and Alameda Counties – Caltrans will close the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge over the next two weekends, October 19-22 and October 26-29.  The full closures for all eastbound and westbound lanes will begin at 10:00 p.m. on Friday and continue until 5:00 a.m. on Monday.  There will be westbound lane closures as early 6:00pm.

The full closure will allow crews to install a new seismic joint and replace 60 feet of the bridge deck just east of the high rise.

Commuters are asked to use alternate routes such as the Dumbarton Bridge, San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge, or the southern route along Highway 237.

On the eastbound side (Foster City) the on-ramp from Edgewater Boulevard and Metro Center Boulevard will be closed. On the westbound side (Hayward) the on-ramp from Industrial Boulevard and Clawiter Road will be closed. All off-ramps will remain open. Mainline traffic will be guided to exit eastbound 92 at Foster City Boulevard and westbound 92 at Clawiter Road.  One westbound lane may be closed as early as 11 a.m. on Friday.

Changeable message signs will be posted throughout the Bay Area to notify motorist of the upcoming closures.

Caltrans and City of Vallejo Kickoff Cleanup Efforts I-80 to Highway 29 Ramp Closures Friday

SOLANO COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the City of Vallejo will be working together in a joint effort to maintain Highway 29 also known as Sonoma Boulevard in South Vallejo starting Friday, October 19^th.

Crews from both Caltrans and the City of Vallejo will be weeding, mowing and clearing-out trash and debris along Highway 29/Sonoma Boulevard near Maritime Academy Drive. This is the first phase of a new partnership between Caltrans and the City of Vallejo to increase maintenance efforts along this busy stretch of Highway 29.

Eastbound I-80 Connector to northbound Highway-29 Closure & Detour

To ensure worker and public safety during the work, the eastbound I-80                  connector ramp to northbound Highway 29 will be closed starting Friday, October 19^th    from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Southbound Highway-29 onramp onto Westbound I-80 Closure & Detour

As part of the work, southbound highway 29 at Maritime Academy Drive and the westbound I-80 onramp from southbound Highway 29 will also be closed starting Friday, October 19^th at 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Detour signs will be posted. Motorists should allow for extra travel time and expect delays. All work is weather permitting.

Real McCoy II Ferry Closed For Follow Up of Repairs Closure Scheduled Overnight Wednesday

                       Real McCoy II Ferry Closed For Follow Up of Repairs 

                              Closure Scheduled Overnight Wednesday  

SOLANO COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will temporarily suspend service of the Real McCoy II Ferry late Wednesday night until early Thursday morning to follow up with necessary repairs made earlier this week.

The Real McCoy II is scheduled to be closed Wednesday, October 17th at 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. on Thursday, October 18th.

This is a precautionary measure to ensure that the objectives of recent repairs were met and the boat is operating well under normal conditions.

The Real McCoy II, also known as the Cache Slough Ferry, provides regular service on State Route 84 between Ryer Island and the city of Rio Vista in Solano County.

The delta region ferry normally runs scheduled crossings every 20 minutes, on the hour, 20 minutes after the hour, and 40 minutes after the hour.

Real McCoy II Ferry Detour

During Wednesday’s overnight service interruption, motorists are advised to use Highway 160 and the J-Mack Ferry along Highway 220.
