Caltrans and City of Vallejo Partner in Major Maintenance State Route 29/Sonoma Boulevard Clean-Up

SOLANO COUNTY – In this Caltrans News Flash video, Caltrans, the City of Vallejo, and several other area agencies team up in a major maintenance, litter abatement, and landscaping effort at the State Route 29/Sonoma Boulevard off-ramp from eastbound Interstate 80.

Public Information Officer Vince Jacala interviews key members of a successful partnership among Caltrans, the City of Vallejo and several area agencies working together to beautify State Route 29 which serves as a main entrance and thoroughfare in Vallejo through the “Vallejo Interagency Partnership” (VIP) program.

Full Highway Closure on State Route 1 at Monterey Road in Pacifica (San Mateo County)

San Mateo County- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close both southbound lanes on State Route 1 at Post Mile 45.1, at Manor Drive in Pacifica on November 21, 2014, beginning, Thursday night at 12:00 am to Friday morning, 6:00 am. To ensure public and worker safety, this full closure is necessary to remove a rusted overhead sign with a crane.

Detour:
Traffic should exit at southbound Monterey Road; follow Palmetto Avenue on city streets back onto southbound Palmetto Avenue on-ramp to State Route 1.

Portable Message signs have been placed prior to the construction area to warn motorist of the upcoming closure.

Motorists are advised to expect minor delays and to use alternate routes. Please be alert for workers and “Slow for the Cone Zone.”

Emergency Repairs Completed
Vessel Returned to Service

SOLANO COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will return the Real McCoy II Ferry on State Route 84 to service on Thursday, November 20 at 11:00 AM.
Crews completed emergency repairs and the boat passed its U.S. Coast Guard inspection.

Real McCoy Scheduled Service
The Real McCoy II, also known as the Cache Slough Ferry, provides regular service on State Route 84 between Ryer Island and the city of Rio Vista in Solano County.
The delta region ferry normally runs scheduled crossings every 20 minutes, on the hour, 20 minutes after the hour, and 40 minutes after the hour.

Mandatory Emergency Response Drill-Overnight Tunnel Closures
Start Friday, December 12 at 10:00 PM

ALAMEDA COUNTY and CONTRA COSTA COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will conduct its annual mandatory emergency response drill at the State Route 24 (SR-24) – Caldecott Tunnels, Westbound, between Oakland and Orinda.

The mandatory six-hour emergency response drill begins Friday, December 12 at 10:00 PM and concludes Saturday, December 13 at 4:00 AM. The exercise is weather permitting.

For the safety of crews and the public, Bore 4 will be closed. Traffic will be redirected to Bore 3 during the drill. Bores 1 and 2 will remain open during the exercise.

Traffic control and message signs will be provided ahead of the tunnel bores to help direct motorists.

The emergency management exercise will be a coordinated effort including the CHP, Oakland Fire Department, Moraga-Orinda Fire District, and Caltrans-Tunnels & Tubes Department Staff.

During this exercise, there will be fire simulation, crash simulation, and simulated smoke. Motorists should expect delays and plan for extra travel time.

Mandatory Emergency Response Drill-Overnight Tunnel Closures

SAN MATEO COUNTY – Caltrans will conduct its first annual mandatory emergency response drill at the State Route 1 (SR-1)-Tom Lantos (Devil’s Slide) Tunnels.

Lantos Tunnel-Detour Routes:

During the tunnel closures, the following detours between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay will be in effect. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will also help direct motorists:

From Pacifica: North on SR-1 to southbound on Interstate-280 (I-280)
From Half Moon Bay: East on State Route 92 onto northbound I-280

The emergency management exercise will be a coordinated effort including the CHP, San Mateo County Sheriff, Pacifica Police Department, Cal-Fire, North County Fire and Coastside Fire Protection Districts, and other first responders.

During this exercise, there will be fire simulation, crash simulation, and simulated smoke.

U.S. Highway 101/State Route 84 (Woodside Road) Interchange Improvement Project
Public Scoping Meeting and Open House

San Mateo County – Caltrans District 4 (Oakland) along with the City of Redwood City will hold a public scoping meeting and open house for the proposed U.S. Highway 101/State Route 84 (Woodside Road) Interchange Improvement Project in Redwood City. The purpose of the project is to improve peak-hour congestion at the interchange, traffic operations at nearby intersections along Woodside Road, and bicycle and pedestrian access in the interchange vicinity.

The project is proposed in cooperation with the City of Redwood City and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority.

Caltrans is beginning to prepare an Initial Study/Environmental Assessment (IS/EA) for the proposed project. The scoping meeting will be held to provide the public an opportunity to learn about the scope of the IS/EA and provide comments on potential issues that should be considered during the preparation of the IS/EA.

A presentation on the project development and environmental review process will begin at 6:45 p.m. The rest of the meeting will consist of an open house format, in which attendees can view informational exhibits and ask questions of project team members. Comment cards will be available for the public to provide input on the project’s potential environmental impacts. Attendees do not need to watch the presentation to understand the project or to provide comments.

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority (SMCTA) will also be in attendance.

State Route 82 at Floribunda Avenue Intersection Safety Improvement Project Open House Public Meeting

San Mateo County - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes a safety improvement project on State Route 82 (El Camino Real) at Floribunda Avenue, in the City of Burlingame and Town of Hillsborough. The purpose of the project is to improve safety and reduce the potential for collisions involving left-turn movements.

Caltrans has studied the effects this project may have on the environment. The studies show the project will not significantly affect the quality of the environment. Caltrans, as owner and operator of State Route 82, has prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Assessment (DEIR/EA) for the project. Caltrans will hold an open house/public meeting to provide the public an opportunity to provide comments on the DEIR/EA. The City of Burlingame and the Town of Hillsborough will be in attendance.

The DEIR/EA is available for review and copying at the Caltrans District 4 Office, 111 Grand Avenue, Oakland, California, on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The DEIR/EA is also available at:

SOUTHBOUND INTERSTATE 880 HOV LANE PROJECT
Full Northbound and Southbound Freeway Closures Planned for
Thursday, November 13, and Friday, November 14

SAN LEANDRO, ALAMEDA COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is planning a full closure of northbound Interstate 880 on Thursday morning, November 13, from 12:01 a.m. to 4 a.m., and full closure of southbound Interstate 880 on Friday morning, November 14, from 12:01 a.m. to 4 a.m.

In addition, there will be various lane closures on northbound and southbound Interstate 880 prior to and after the full freeway closures:
• Various northbound lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Various southbound lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Detour for Northbound: Exit at the Davis Street off-ramp, cross Davis Street, and return to northbound I-880.
• Detour for Southbound: Exit at Davis SB off-ramp, turn right, U-turn at signal and return to southbound on ramp to I-880.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and allow extra time for their commute. Please drive cautiously through the construction zone, leave a safe traveling distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you, and Slow for the Cone Zone.

Project Information
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the Alameda County Transportation Commission (Alameda CTC) are widening the southbound I-880 mainline from Hegenberger Road to Marina Boulevard for a High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane. Work includes reconstructing the Davis Street and Marina Boulevard overcrossings to accommodate the HOV lane and providing standard vertical clearance over the freeway. There are two segments to this project. The north segment of the project in Oakland extends from Hegenberger Road to just north of Davis Street. The south segment in San Leandro extends from Davis Street to Marina Boulevard.

Webster Tube to be Closed for Maintenance

Alameda/Oakland – Caltrans will close the Webster Tube on State Route 260 on Wednesday night, November 12, in order to repair emergency call boxes, remove graffiti, and maintain roadway sump pumps.

• The Webster Tube will be closed from 10 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, until 5 a.m. Thursday morning, November 13.

• Detour for Webster Tube (traffic from Oakland to Alameda): Take south Interstate 880 to 23rd Avenue off-ramp, cross the Park Street Bridge to Park Street, and continue to your destination.

Overnight Weekend Closures-Start Friday, November 7 at 11 p.m.

SOLANO COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), and its project partner the Solano Transportation Authority (STA) are continuing work on the Interstate-80/Interstate-680/Highway 12 Interchange Project in Fairfield.

For the weekend starting Friday, November 7, crews will be moving concrete safety barriers and striping traffic lanes on westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) near the Green Valley Road exit, and on the eastbound I-80 connector to southbound I-680.

Eastbound I-80 to southbound I-680 connector closures:
To ensure worker and public safety, the eastbound I-80 connector to southbound I-680 will be closed at the following times:

Friday, November 7 at 11 p.m. until Saturday, November 8 at 8 a.m.
Sunday, November 9 at 10 p.m. until Monday, November 10 at 4:30 a.m.

Eastbound I-80 to southbound I-680 connector detour:
Motorists headed onto southbound I-680 from eastbound I-80 will be detoured to the Green Valley Road exit, then turn right onto Lopes Road/Green Valley road, then turn left on Gold Hill Road, then turn right onto southbound I-680.

Westbound I-80 Lane Overnight Closures
Various lane closures will also be in effect on westbound I-80 near the Green Valley Road Exit. At least one of five westbound I-80 lanes will remain open at all times.

Westbound I-80 Zampa Bridge-Overnight Lane Closures Start Friday, November 7 at 8 p.m.

Westbound Interstate-80 Zampa Bridge-Overnight Lane Closures Start Friday, November 7 at 8 p.m.

SOLANO and CONTRA COSTA COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform expansion joint maintenance work on the westbound Interstate-80 (I-80) Zampa Bridge in Solano and Contra Costa Counties.

Crews will remove and replace one of the support beams underneath the northern bridge expansion joint, and repair as needed the adjacent expansion joint rails. No steel plates will be used when lanes are opened to traffic. This work is routine maintenance, and is not related to last August’s Napa Earthquake. Vessels will pass normally beneath the bridge on the Carquinez Strait.
The two consecutive weekends, and three weekday nights of work start November 7.

Westbound I-80 Lane Closures
For worker and public safety, up to 3 of 4 traffic lanes of westbound I-80 on the Zampa Bridge will be closed during the following hours:

Friday, November 7 at 8 p.m. until Saturday, November 8 at 7 a.m.
Saturday, November 8 at 11 p.m. until Sunday, November 9 at 9 a.m.

Starting Tuesday, November 11 until Thursday, November 13, various lane closures will be in effect Tuesday through Thursday at 8 p.m. until the following mornings at 5 a.m.

Friday, November 14 at 8 p.m. until Saturday, November 15 at 7 a.m.
Saturday, November 15 at 11 p.m. until Sunday, November 16 at 9 a.m.

One westbound lane will remain open at all times. All work is weather permitting.

Off-ramp Closures –Watch for Detours-November 5 and 6

SOLANO COUNTY – Caltrans, the City of Vallejo, and several other area agencies are teaming up in a two-day major maintenance, litter abatement, and landscaping effort.

The first day of work starts Wednesday, November 5 at 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the eastbound Highway 37 off-ramp to Columbus Parkway, and the westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) off-ramp to Columbus Parkway. Work is weather permitting. Crews will trim-back overgrown trees, mow, replace lights under the I-80 overcrossing, clear-out trash, and remove graffiti.

Wednesday, November 5-Eastbound Highway 37 off-ramp to Columbus Parkway Closed:
To ensure worker and public safety, the eastbound Highway 37 off-ramp to Columbus Parkway will be closed during Wednesday’s work. Motorists will continue on eastbound I-80, exit at American Canyon Road, then re-enter westbound I-80 from American Canyon Road.

Wednesday, November 5-Westbound I-80 off-ramp to Columbus Parkway Closed:
Motorists headed to Columbus Parkway from westbound I-80 will continue on westbound I-80, exit Tennessee Street East, continue on Tennessee, then enter eastbound I-80 from Tennessee, and exit Columbus Parkway from eastbound I-80.

Thursday, November 6-Northbound Highway 29 off-ramp from eastbound I-80 Closed:
The second day of work starts Thursday, November 6. During that work, the northbound Highway 29 off-ramp from eastbound I-80 will be closed at 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. that same day.
Motorists will continue on eastbound I-80, then take westbound I-780, then westbound on Curtola Parkway, and enter Highway 29 from Curtola Parkway.

This is the tenth phase of a key partnership among Caltrans, the City, and several area agencies to beautify main entrances and thoroughfares in Vallejo through the “Vallejo Interagency Partnership” (VIP) program. Thank you for your patience as we maintain California’s highways.
