Interstate-80 at Midway Road
Full Overnight Highway Closures
Rescheduled Due to Weather
New Start Day Thursday, November 16, 2017
SOLANO COUNTY— The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has rescheduled nighttime work related to the continuing construction of the new Midway Road Bridge above eastbound and westbound Interstate-80 (I-80).
The bridge is located in rural Solano County just east of Downtown Vacaville.
The work originally scheduled to start Tuesday, November 7, 2017 has been RESCHEDULED due to incoming rain storms and is now scheduled to start on Thursday, November 16, 2017.
Caltrans and its contractor are scheduled to start installation of bridge falsework.
Eastbound I-80 Closures and Detours-November 16 and November 17, 2017
To ensure worker and public safety during the falsework installation, a full highway closure will be in effect on eastbound I-80 at Midway Road starting Thursday, November 16 at 11:59 PM until Friday, November 17 at 5:00 AM. Eastbound I-80 motorists will use the detour at Meridian off-ramp onto Weber Road then left at Lewis Road and back onto eastbound I-80 at Midway Road on-ramp.
A full highway closure will be in effect on westbound I-80 at Midway Road starting Friday, November 17 at 11:59 PM until Saturday, November 18 at 5:00 AM. Motorists will be taken off I-80 at Midway Road, then southbound on North Meridian Street, then re-enter westbound I-80 from North Meridian.
Detour signs will be posted. CHP will help direct motorists.
Please allow for extra time and expect delays. All work is weather dependent.
Midway Bridge Long-Term Closure
The Midway Bridge will remain CLOSED until the new Midway Bridge is completed as early as spring 2018. Local detours remain in effect.
Project Benefits
The project will demolish and rebuild the Midway Road Bridge. The work seismically retrofits the bridge and brings it up to the latest seismic safety standards.
Midway Road Bridge Closure-Detour Routes
During the construction of the new Midway Road Bridge, the Meridian Road Bridge above I-80 and just west of the Midway Road Bridge will remain OPEN and serve as a general detour.
Construction Zone Activity
Residents and businesses near the Midway Bridge may temporarily experience increased construction noise.
