Construction Begins for College Avenue Widening Project at U.S. 101
Weeknight Road Closures to Begin Wednesday Night, May 21

Santa Rosa –Caltrans will begin work this week to relocate sewer and water lines on College Avenue, between Cleveland Avenue and Morgan Street.

On Wednesday night, May 21, Caltrans will close College Avenue between Cleveland Avenue and the Interchange.  Vehicles will be able to reach the ARCO Gas Station and Subway restaurant adjacent to the freeway on-ramp, but through traffic will not be allowed between the southbound U.S. 101 freeway on-ramp/off-ramp and Cleveland Avenue.

  • Standard closure hours of College Avenue for utility relocation:
Monday – Friday, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

  • Detour: Morgan Street to 9th Street to Cleveland Avenue.

  • No closures are scheduled for Friday night, May 23.

This project will widen College Avenue at US 101 between Cleveland Avenue to the west and Morgan Avenues to the east of the interchange. Improvements include new bicycle lanes and pedestrian sidewalks in either direction, a second left-turn lane for eastbound College Avenue approach to the northbound US 101 on-ramp, and an extension of the westbound College Avenue to northbound Cleveland Avenue right-turn lane that will start at Morgan Avenue. New replacement traffic signals within project limits will provide further enhancement to the interchange.

When completed, there will be reduced congestion, improved safety, enhanced pedestrian and bicycle access, and improved traffic flow at the U.S. 101/College Avenue Interchange.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tree Removal Clears Way for Airport Boulevard Project

Santa Rosa –  On January 9, 2013, Caltrans will begin removing trees and shrubs in the area of the U.S. Route 101/Airport Boulevard Interchange in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County. The removal will clear the way for the upcoming Airport Boulevard Reconstruction Project, set to begin this spring.

The tree and shrub removal will not require any lane closures.  However, drivers are asked to exercise caution while driving through this area during the removal process.

The $34.5 million Airport Boulevard Reconstruction Project will expand the existing interchange at Airport Boulevard into a full interchange, and will eliminate the partial interchange at Fulton Road.

Several of the tree trunks will be used to restore a portion of the Mark West Creek bank for wildlife habitat. Others will be donated to a restored 19th century saw mill in Sebastopol.  Once the Airport Interchange Project is finished in the fall of 2014, the area will be re-landscaped under a separate contract.
