State Route 121-Between Circle Oak Drive and Wooden Valley Road
Update-Full Highway Closure Continues
Emergency Repairs Underway
NAPA COUNTY– The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has started emergency roadway repairs and begun installing temporary traffic signal lights on State Route 121 (SR-121) in rural Napa County. The highway was undermined during heavy rains earlier this month.
Northbound and southbound SR-121 remains closed until further notice between Wooden Valley Road and Circle Oak Drive. The highway was originally closed March 13.
Retaining Wall Work-Southbound and Northbound SR-121 lanes
On Saturday, March 19, crews started installing metal beams and constructing a retaining wall to prevent erosion of the existing southbound SR-121 traffic lanes. Workers also started installing several steel beams along the existing northbound traffic lanes to prevent further erosion and assist in the reconstruction of the damaged northbound SR-121 traffic lanes.
Temporary Traffic Signal Light Installation-SR-121
Crews have also begun installing temporary traffic signal lights just north and south of the undermined section of SR-121. The temporary one-way traffic signals are tentatively scheduled to be activated the week of March 28. Caltrans will make an announcement once additional information is available.
Temporary traffic signals will allow northbound and southbound SR-121 motorists to pass the erosion site by alternating use of the existing southbound SR-121 lane. All work is weather permitting.
At this time, the following detours remain in effect:
SR-121 Detours
Westbound SR-128 motorists headed to southbound SR-121 will be detoured to westbound SR-128 to SR-29. Motorists from Napa wanting to avoid the closure are advised to use northbound SR-29 to eastbound SR-128. Motorists from Wooden Valley Road will be detoured to southbound SR-121 to northbound SR-29, then eastbound SR-128. Local access only beyond SR-128/SR-121 intersection.
