Weekend Nighttime Work Scheduled for SR12 Rio Vista Bridge
Motorists Can Expect Significant Delays
SACRAMENTO and SOLANO COUNTY – Caltrans has scheduled nighttime work on the Rio Vista Bridge on State Highway 12 in Sacramento and Solano counties. Motorists should expect significant delays beginning Saturday evening into Sunday morning.
The contractor is scheduled to work from 9 p.m. Saturday, March 24 to 10 a.m. Sunday, March 25. Workers will be adding additional tarps and setting up scaffolding to cover the bridge.
When one-way traffic controls are in effect, crews will alternate traffic in the westbound and eastbound directions on the bridge. This will allow one lane on the bridge to remain open.
For marine traffic, please contact the U.S. Coast Guard for availability of crossings. Smaller boats may pass normally underneath the bridge. Motorists are encouraged to visit the project website for additional information at www.riovistabridge.com.

Crews to Start Work on the State Highway 12-Rio Vista Bridge Project
Overnight One-Way Traffic Controls Delays Expected Beginning on February 12
SACRAMENTO and SOLANO COUNTIES – Caltrans is alerting motorists that overnight lane closures on the State Highway 12 Rio Vista Bridge in the Delta are tentatvely scheduled to start on Monday, February 12.
Motorists should allow additional travel time in the area as crews begin work on a $37.1 million painting project aimed at preserving the structure over the Sacramento River in Sacramento and Solano counties.
The drawbridge will remain open to traffic throughout the project. However, one of the two lanes on the bridge will be closed during the overnight hours on weekdays and some weekends to accommodate crews. Bicycle and pedestrian access will remain open. Motorists can expect delays because of the one-way traffic controls.
The project will preserve the Rio Vista Bridge over the Sacramento River by cleaning the surface, removing the old paint and then repainting all steel surfaces. The work is expected to take two to three years to complete.
The project is lengthy because there will be no complete closures of the bridge and work will be limited to nighttime into the early morning during the week with some weekends as needed. Completion is expected by winter 2020.
The daily schedule is from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. Friday. The weekend schedule (as needed) is 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday.
One-Way Traffic Controls
Even though no full-highway closures are scheduled, motorists will experience delays as crews work. Intermittent one-way traffic control with flaggers will be in effect.
During the one-way traffic controls, crews will alternate traffic in the eastbound and westbound directions on the bridge. This will allow one lane on the bridge to remain open during the work.
Boat and Ship Traffic
For mariner traffic, the bridge will open only during specified times or in a maritime emergency. Ship captains and boaters must contact the U. S. The one-day inspections are scheduled starting Wednesday, August 23 beginning at 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM that same day. All work is weather permitting.
The inspections are part of Caltrans’ preventive maintenance plan on the bridge.
During the inspections, motorists traveling across the Rio Vista Bridge on SR-12 may experience delays as crews conduct inspections with intermittent one-way traffic controls.
During one-way traffic controls, crews will alternate traffic in the eastbound and westbound directions on the bridge. This will allow one lane on the bridge to remain open during the inspections.
For boat and ship traffic, the bridge will operate normally for any vessels passing underneath it along the Sacramento River.
