Thursday April 23, 2015
Don’t Trash California
OAKLAND - Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol are partnering to increase awareness of litter pick-up and enforcement efforts on Thursday, April 23, 2015. The joint effort is one of the many events happening throughout the state in conjunction with Earth Day 2015.
Caltrans is available for media interviews Thursday, April 23 at 10:00 AM at the northbound Highway 238 under the I-580 Overcrossing, Castro Valley.
Caltrans Maintenance crews in the nine Bay Area counties will focus upon collecting litter alongside the highways. The CHP Commercial Mobile Road Enforcement units will focus on litter enforcement and educating drivers to cover loads. Last year, Caltrans collected approximately 3,000 cubic yards of litter during the annual Earth Day Event.
Caltrans Headquarters will also host a special presentation, highlighting the annual litter enforcement day, at the State Capitol on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 9:00 AM.
Caltrans will work at locations around the Bay Area, including the following:
Alameda County: Castro Valley: Photo-Op of stockpiled litter bags and roadside debris at northbound Highway 238 under the I-580 Overcrossing. Interstate 77/238/880 Homeless Encampment Removal (or Highway 92 Toll Plaza to Decoto Road).
Contra Costa County: Interstate 680 North Main to Treat Interchanges.
Toll Bridges: Bay Bridge East and West Approaches/Ramps.
Specialty Regions: Devil’s Slide Tunnels/Bridge/Ramps areas litter and graffiti removal.
