FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TRAFFIC SWITCH FOR NEW I-880 N/B BRIDGE
THIS WEEKEND
ALAMEDA COUNTY – This weekend, the California Department of Transportation/Caltrans will
initiate an early morning traffic switch to divert motorists traveling on the old northbound (n/b)
Interstate 880 bridge structure onto the newly-completed bridge roadway.

Lane closures along I-880 will begin Saturday night, August 25, 2012 from 8:30 p.m. to 10 a.m.
(actual time is subject to possible traffic delays at the conclusion of Saturday’s Oakland Raiders
game at the Coliseum) Sunday morning, August 26, in order for construction crews to safely
conduct the switch to the new n/b I-880 bridge structure.

Full closure of n/b I-880 will be in effect from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday morning.

DETOUR ROUTE: Changeable Message Signs will be used to direct all northbound motorists to
exit at the High Street off-ramp. After exiting, motorists will then be directed eastbound to take
Coliseum Way and re-enter n/b I-880 at the High Street/42nd Avenue on-ramp.

The work is part of the ongoing I-880 High Street Seismic Retrofit Project, in the City of
Oakland. The purpose of the traffic switch is to remove the current n/b I880 bridge structure. All
other I-880 traffic proceeding northbound or southbound will not be affected.

Our top priority is the safety of the traveling public. Caltrans will continue to inform the public of
all scheduled and unscheduled construction events and closures. A website is available to
provide the public with the most current updates on this project. Updates on this and other
Caltrans’ projects will also be posted on Twitter at www.twitter.com/I880Corridor and under
“Updates & New Releases” at http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist4/

Motorists should are reminded to be alert for workers and "Slow for the Cone Zone”. Caltrans
appreciates your patience as we work to improve the highways.
