CALTRANS OPENS NEW BRIDGE TO MOTORISTS
Midway Road Bridge
I-80 Between Vacaville and Dixon
Between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM

SOLANO COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has completed major work on the new Interstate 80 (I-80) Midway Road Bridge and is now set to open the new bridge to the motoring public.

The structure is above westbound and eastbound I-80 near the Dixon/Vacaville city limits.

The new bridge opens to motorists for the very first time between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM on today, Friday, April 20, 2018.
This brings the new Midway Road Bridge up to new seismic safety standards and improves safety for the more than 140,000 motorists who travel on I-80 underneath the bridge on their daily drive between Sacramento and San Francisco.

The new bridge includes new sidewalks and wider northbound and southbound lanes for motorists traveling on Midway Road.
The new bridge reconnects rural sections of Dixon and Vacaville. This includes several local businesses, residents and visitors to the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery who were required to use a long-detour after the old Midway Bridge was demolished and construction of the new Midway Bridge began in summer 2017.

The new Midway Road Bridge cost about $16 million to construct. The project received the funding for construction and other related costs from California’s State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP).

The project costs also included the seismic retrofit of the nearby I-80 Meridian Road Bridge. That bridge is located approximately 2 miles west of the Midway Bridge. Work on the Meridian Road Bridge began in May 2017 and was completed in August 2017.

Caltrans hosted a I-80 Midway Road Bridge Ribbon Cutting Celebration with local representatives and the community on Friday, April 13, 2018.
