New “Bridge Trophy” for Winner of Annual Giants-Athletics Series Unveiled

SAN FRANCISCO – Caltrans, in partnership with NBC Bay Area Sports and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, today unveiled the new “Bridge Trophy” which will be awarded to the winner of the annual Giants-Athletics series. Unveiled at AT&T Park before the Giants-Athletics exhibition game, the trophy was fashioned from steel taken from the old, now-demolished eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.

“The very steel that once joined both sides of the Bay will continue to do so, through this trophy,” said Caltrans Director Laurie Berman. “All of us at Caltrans are very pleased and proud to be a part of it.”

Two artist’s studios, Scientific Arts and The Crucible, joined forces to create the trophy. The trophy will be awarded after the July 22 game, the last time the two teams meet during the 2018 regular season.

“The trophy is certain to become a vital part of Bay Area sports culture,” said Caltrans District 4 Director Bijan Sartipi.
