This program was made possible through a unique partnership with CBS EcoMedia, which generates financial support for community programs through the power of advertising.

WHO: Myeast McCauley – Chief Public Information Officer, Caltrans District 4
Hardeep Takhar – Caltrans District 4 Stormwater Coordinator
Bill Yarborough – Regional Parks Foundation Board Chair
Dave Zuckermann – East Bay Regional Park District Interpretive and Recreation Services Manager
Michael Charnofsky – Naturalist, Operations, East Bay Regional Park District

WHEN: Saturday, June 25 | 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

This initiative is part of Caltrans’ Protect Every Drop campaign, which is a stormwater public education and outreach campaign to educate Californians about the sources and pathways of stormwater pollution, and to encourage behavior to reduce pollutants in order to improve water quality in our streams, rivers, lakes and coastal waters.

Open House for Rio Vista Bridge Preservation
Community Feedback Sought on Two Projects

RIO VISTA — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is hosting a community meeting on Wednesday, June 22 to share information about two Rio Vista Bridge preservation projects and how they will affect motorists and community members.

The meeting is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Rio Vista City Hall, One Main Street, and will include a brief Power Point presentation. Caltrans staff will be on hand to answer questions and discuss the two proposed projects in which construction is expected to cover a six-year period.

The first project will maintain and preserve the steel structural members of the Rio Vista Bridge (No. 23-0024) on State Highway 12 over the Sacramento River by cleaning and painting all steel surfaces.

The existing coating system on the Rio Vista Bridge is deteriorating in different locations. There are rust spots along the truss, tower, and floor system members, and rusting around many of the truss gusset plate nuts and bolts. The $37 million painting project is nearing the end of the environmental phase, and the design team is beginning to assemble the construction plans and specifications. Construction is scheduled from fall 2017 to spring 2022.

Funding in the amount of $19.2 million is being proposed in the next funding cycle for the second project which proposes to maintain the operation and structural integrity of the drawbridge by replacing the mechanical and electrical systems. This project also proposes to replace two existing elevators and installing a 4 inch sewer line.

The existing electrical and mechanical systems are at the end of their useful service life and need to be replaced to maintain the operation of this movable bridge for both roadway and navigational traffic. The two elevators are out of service and the sewer line will allow plumbed facilities on the bridge. Construction is proposed from 2022 to 2023.

Space is very limited at the meeting location and anyone requiring special accommodations to attend the public open house can contact the Caltrans District 3 Public Information Office at (530) 741-5474.

State Route 1 in Sonoma County near Gleason Beach
Construction for One-Way Traffic Control Begins Week of June 13

SONOMA COUNTY – Due to erosion caused by winter storms, Caltrans is beginning an emergency project to install traffic signals near Gleason Beach. Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 13 with the installation of signs; traffic signals are scheduled to be installed and activated on Thursday, June 16.

When installation is complete, one-way control will be in place 24 hours per day. During high traffic periods or holidays, Caltrans may also use flaggers to keep traffic moving efficiently.

• The contractor plans to begin work on June 13. Prior to activation of the traffic signals, motorists should expect to find one-way reversible traffic control and construction Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Once the traffic signals are installed, one-way reversible traffic control will continue until further notice.

o Motorists should expect brief delays of approximately five to ten minutes and allow additional time to reach their destination.

Safety is the Department of Transportation’s highest priority, and this lane reduction is necessary due to erosion. Plans are being developed for a future micro-realignment project that will shift the highway a few feet to the east.

The State Route 1 Gleason Beach Realignment Project will completely realign the highway to the east. However, this major project is in the final environmental document phase, has yet to be designed, and will not go into construction until 2019. Until that time, Caltrans will continue to monitor the highway and maintain safety for travelers.

If work is delayed due to weather conditions, it will be rescheduled. Please drive cautiously through the construction zone, leave a safe traveling distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you, and Slow for the Cone Zone.

• From Sunday, June 12 at 8:00 PM until Monday June 13 at 4:00 AM
• Monday June 13 through Friday June 17 from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily
• Monday June 20 through Friday June 24 from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily

Detour signs will be in place to redirect motorists towards alternate routes. Construction vehicle traffic and noise may be experienced in and near the construction area and Fernwood Drive.

I-80/SR-12 connector. The temporary shift is scheduled to occur the night of June 10, 2016.

Additional Information
Motorists are advised to allow for extra time, watch for temporary detours and always drive with caution through the construction zone.
