Caltrans Activates Ramp Meters on State Route 85

SANTA CLARA COUNTY — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in partnership with Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will activate eight new on-ramp meters on northbound and seven new on-ramp meters on southbound State Route 85 between Interstate 280 in Cupertino and U.S. 101 in Mountain View.

Metering lights in the southbound direction will be activated for the P.M. peak commute hours of 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14. During this time, the lights will be set to solid green for one week then begin metering on January 21 during the P.M. peak hours.

Metering lights in the northbound direction will be activated for the A.M. peak commute hours from 6 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on January 21. During this time, the lights will be set to solid green for one week then begin metering on January 28 during the A.M. peak hours.

Newly activated ramp locations could experience delays during the first few days of operation. Caltrans will monitor the metered on-ramps and make adjustments as they fine-tune the metering operations. The ramp metering information line phone number is 510-286-4531.
