Highway 12-Jameson Canyon-Full Overnight Closure Starts Friday, August 1 at 11 p.m.

SOLANO COUNTY –Caltrans, the Solano Transportation Authority (STA), and the Napa County Transportation and Planning Agency (NCTPA) are scheduled to switch traffic from the existing roadway configuration on Highway 12-Jameson Canyon in Solano County the night of Friday, August 1.

The switch will require the movement of safety barriers and restriping of traffic lanes.  After this switch is completed, motorists will be driving on one new traffic lane eastbound and one new traffic lane westbound on a section of Highway 12 just west of Red Top Road.

Two traffic lanes inside the safety barriers will remain closed until the project nears completion in a few weeks. The temporary configuration will allow crews to complete the final concrete median work.

The entire six-mile widening project with two lanes of eastbound and two lanes of westbound traffic is tentatively scheduled to be completed sometime in September.

Full Overnight Highway Closures
To ensure worker and public safety during Friday night’s full highway closure, eastbound and westbound Highway 12 between Highway 29 and Red Top Road is scheduled to be closed Friday, August 1 at 11 p.m. until Saturday, August 2 at 5 a.m.

Highway 12-Jameson Canyon Detour
Eastbound Highway 12 motorists are advised to use southbound Highway 29 to eastbound Highway 37 to eastbound Interstate 80. Westbound Highway 12 motorists should use westbound Interstate 80 to westbound Highway 37 to northbound Highway 29. Local access for Jameson Canyon residents and emergency vehicles only. All work is weather permitting.

Caltrans and CHP Warn Drivers of Maximum Enforcement Around Construction Work Zones

Caltrans and CHP Warn Drivers of Maximum Enforcement Around Construction Work Zones

SACRAMENTO – Beginning today, Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) are warning motorists statewide that the CHP is conducting maximum enforcement of traffic laws in active construction zones as part of a public safety campaign focused on work zone safety.

As part of this campaign, Caltrans will activate its electronic highway message signs in active construction and maintenance work zones around the state to display the following warning:
WORKERS AHEAD
CHP ON PATROL
MAX ENFORCEMENT

“This is about protecting the safety of California’s motorists and the men and women working along the state’s highways,” said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty. “Using our highway message signs and increasing CHP’s presence around these areas, we are reminding California drivers to do their part in reducing collisions and hazardous conditions in these work zones.”

Currently, there are more than 700 active projects underway worth more than $11 billion.

As part of the maximum enforcement effort, the CHP will have their patrol officers increase the time spent patrolling active work zones in their areas, while also conducting proactive enforcement efforts. Drivers should be aware that any traffic infraction committed within a construction work zone will result in a doubling of the usual fine.

“Through a combination of education and enforcement our goal is to provide the safest environment possible for highway workers,” said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. “Motorists are reminded to reduce their speed, watch for highway workers and safely move over a lane when passing work crews. These simple actions can mean the difference between life and death.”

“Without a doubt, working on a highway construction project is a dangerous job,” said Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal (D-Long Beach), Chair of the Assembly Committee on Transportation. “For the millions of drivers on our roads each day, these signs will get the message across loud and clear - a little extra vigilance can save a life.”

"Highway workers are doing their part to make our roadways safe and reliable for everyone," said Director Rhonda Craft of the Office of Traffic Safety. "We need to do our part by slowing down and using extra caution around active work zones."

The enforcement message will be displayed July 28-August 1 and September 23-25 on any electronic highway message signs within five miles in advance of active construction work zones. The enforcement message will be activated when there are no critical emergency or traffic safety messages or Amber Alerts.

Interstate-80/Interstate-680/Highway 12 Interchange Project-Fairfield Lane Reductions and Traffic Shift on Westbound I-80

Date:       July 28, 2014
District:   4 - Oakland
Contact:  Vince Jacala
Phone:     510/286-5206

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Interstate-80/Interstate-680/Highway 12 Interchange Project-Fairfield
Lane Reductions and Traffic Shift on Westbound I-80

SOLANO COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has shifted the traffic configuration and reduced the number of traffic lanes on westbound Interstate-80 near the I-80/I-680/Highway 12 Interchange as part of the I-80/I-680/Highway 12 Interchange Project in Fairfield.

The changes on westbound I-80 occurred overnight on Sunday, July 27. Motorists will notice the changes during this week’s commute.

Crews have reduced the number of traffic lanes from 5 to 4 lanes on westbound I-80 in Fairfield between the I-680 connector and the Green Valley Road overcrossing. The lane reductions will remain in-effect until the new Green Valley Road overcrossing is completed in fall 2015. Motorists will also notice a slight curve on westbound I-80 through the I-80/I-680/Highway 12 construction zone.

The temporary configuration will allow crews to continue to continue work on the project behind temporary concrete safety barriers.

Motorists should expect delays, allow extra travel, and watch for crews at work.

I-80/I-680/Highway-12 Project Improvements:
Caltrans and its project partner the Solano Transportation Authority (STA) are working on the first construction package of the I-80/I-680/Highway-12 Interchange project.

During this first phase, a new Green Valley Road overcrossing will be constructed above I-80 about 200 feet east of the existing overcrossing. The new overcrossing will have twice the number of lanes (4) as the existing overcrossing (2), along with a new on ramp to westbound I-80/Highway-12. The connector ramp from westbound I-80 to Highway-12 also will be widened from one lane to two lanes.
