FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Interstate-80/Interstate-680/Highway 12 Interchange Project-Fairfield
Lane Reductions and Traffic Shift on Westbound I-80

SOLANO COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has shifted the traffic configuration and reduced the number of traffic lanes on westbound Interstate-80 near the I-80/I-680/Highway 12 Interchange as part of the I-80/I-680/Highway 12 Interchange Project in Fairfield.

The changes on westbound I-80 occurred overnight on Sunday, July 27. Motorists will notice the changes during this week’s commute.

Crews have reduced the number of traffic lanes from 5 to 4 lanes on westbound I-80 in Fairfield between the I-680 connector and the Green Valley Road overcrossing. The lane reductions will remain in-effect until the new Green Valley Road overcrossing is completed in fall 2015. Motorists will also notice a slight curve on westbound I-80 through the I-80/I-680/Highway 12 construction zone.

The temporary configuration will allow crews to continue to continue work on the project behind temporary concrete safety barriers.

Motorists should expect delays, allow extra travel, and watch for crews at work.

I-80/I-680/Highway-12 Project Improvements:
Caltrans and its project partner the Solano Transportation Authority (STA) are working on the first construction package of the I-80/I-680/Highway-12 Interchange project.

During this first phase, a new Green Valley Road overcrossing will be constructed above I-80 about 200 feet east of the existing overcrossing. The new overcrossing will have twice the number of lanes (4) as the existing overcrossing (2), along with a new on ramp to westbound I-80/Highway-12. The connector ramp from westbound I-80 to Highway-12 also will be widened from one lane to two lanes.
