Interstate 280 Bridge Hinge Replacement Project
104-Hours (4 Days-8-Hours) Road Closure Planned for Fourth of July Holiday Weekend

San Francisco –Caltrans has activated portable changeable message signs (CMS) for the Interstate 280 Bridge Hinge Replacement Project.  The signs notify motorists of upcoming ramp and freeway closures in San Francisco. During two extended-holiday weekends, the California Department of Transportation will close northbound I-280 in order to replace three bridge hinges.

The first closure is scheduled for the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Northbound I-280 will be fully closed from the U.S. 101/Interstate 280 interchange to downtown San Francisco.

Full northbound closure Begins: 9 p.m. Wednesday evening, July 2
Full nouthbound closure Ends: 5 a.m., Monday morning, July 7.

Northbound on-ramp closures include:
  • U.S. 101 connector to northbound Interstate 280
  • Indiana Street/25th Street on-ramp
  • 18th Street on-ramp

Northbound off-ramp closures include:
  • Cesar Chavez Street off-ramp
  • Mariposa Street off-ramp
  • 6th Street off-ramp
  • King Street off-ramp

Detour: Northbound Interstate 280 traffic will detour to U.S. 101.
Note: southbound I-280 will remain open during this closure
                         
An additional closure is planned for the Labor Day holiday weekend.
